Bess the Book Bus, Inc. is a mobile literacy outreach founded by Tampa native, Jennifer Frances in honor of her maternal grandmother Bess O’Keefe. “Bess” taught Jenn how much joy could come from reading and how a new world would open up each time they would read a book together. As Jenn got older, she realized the difference Nana Bess made in her life by teaching her the importance of reading, and now she wants to share her love for books with as many people as possible.
Bess the Book Bus is dedicated to reading to children, promoting literacy, and getting books in to the homes of underprivileged children and families across the country. The program continues to grow with help from Transitions Optical, impacting the lives of tens of thousands of children each year.
“Bess” wants to impart the message that healthy eyesight is critical to reading and learning both in the classroom and in everyday life – and that proper eyecare and eyewear are key to keeping the eyes healthy.
